Monsoon Season

After living in Arizona for almost 9 years now, I am here for my first FULL monsoon season ever! Two storms in the past 3 days... it really is amazing. I'm talking thunder, lightning, rain... the whole deal! I feel asleeep to the rain on Tuesday night (which was ever so pleasent) and woke up to thunder and some light sprinkles today. Unfortunately I had forgotten (from my Minnesota days of Youth) that with rain comes humidity. Blah. My hair is out of control, my pants stick to my legs, the A/C in my car does little to cool me off on my 15 minute commute to school...

And then today I heard this bittersweet news: the huge, giant saguaro cactus living in my parent's back yard was struck by lightning. I went out to have a little look-see this afternoon. "WOW!" is all I could say. *They* say that every 1 foot of Saguaro cactus weighs over 100 pounds. Here was over 1,500 pounds of cactus splattered and splintered on the pool deck. I've never seen the inside of a cactus, or touched it, and learned very quickly that one cannot EAT cactus. (Not really sure what had a hold of me at that particular moment in time...) I'll try to get some pictures up of it. Like I said, bittersweet.

Hope July is wrapping up nicely for everyone (-:
